San Jose Unified School District Math Camp teacher Craig Zitner convicted

San Jose Unified School District teacher Craig Zitner was arrested in 2017 for molesting a 12-year-old female student at a summer math camp. The math course, Math Enrichment, was held in Saratoga. Craig Zitner had been an employee of the San Jose Unified School District since 2004 and a teacher at Broadway High School since 2015. He had once been named Substitute Teacher of the Year by the Mountain View Los Altos High School District and was also a popular basketball coach at Mountain View High School.

Broadway High School is a continuation High School in San Jose.

At the end of the summer camp, the female victim told her mother that Zitner had touched her multiple times inappropriately. The mother contacted the Santa Clara County Sheriff Department, and their Sexual Assault Investigation Unit began to investigate Zitner. The detectives served a $300,000 arrest warrant, and the school immediately placed Zitner on leave once the investigation was disclosed to the school district. Eventually, Zitner was convicted of two misdemeanor counts of soliciting a lewd act. He also resigned, and his teaching credential was revoked for life.

It must have been a horrible experience for the young student to be molested by the camp teacher. Those events will forever impact her life. She was courageous to come forward and tell her mother that something very wrong happened while she was entrusted to the math camp staff.
