Walnut Creek Intermediate School science teacher Michael Bartel is charged with multiple counts of sexually assaulting two young children and arranging to met a child for sex. He is in custody on $16 million bail.

Michael Bartel was arrested by Martinez police after they learned that he had been making statements online about molesting children. At this point, according to prosecutors, there is no evidence that Bartel abused any of his students at the Walnut Creek School District school. Bartel was a substitute teacher in the Martinez Unified School District prior to teaching at Walnut Creek Intermediate School.
